
Rodolfo tells Marcello that he wants to separate from Mimi because the poverty they live in is making her illness worse. She finds Marcello and tells him she has decided to leave Rodolfo (Pavarotti) because of his jealousy. Mimi (Freni) enters, searching for the place where Marcello (Quilico) and Musetta (Pacetti) are now living. The group leaves the cafe as Alcindoro returns and discovers the enormous bill.Īct III takes place at a customhouse on the outskirts of Paris. When the bill arrives, Musetta tells the waiter to charge everything to Alcindoro. She sends Alcindoro away and joins Marcello. In an effort to regain Marcello's favor, Musetta sings a lovely waltz. In Act II, Mimi, Rodolfo, and his friends are dining at the Cafe Momus when Marcello's former sweetheart, Musetta (Pacetti), enters with Alcindoro (Tajo). After talking for a while, the two express their newfound love for each other and leave arm in arm for the cafe. Rodolfo's friends depart for the Cafe Momus, and he promises to join them soon, but is surprised by a visit from his neighbor Mimi (Freni). The four ply him with wine and eventually throw him out. After they are joined by their roommates Colline (Ghiaurov), a philosopher, and Schaunard (Dickson), a musician, their landlord, Benoit (Tajo), enters and demands a rent payment.

Act I takes place in a garret in Paris's Latin Quarter on Christmas Eve, where Rodolfo (Pavarotti), a poet, and Marcello (Quilico), an artist, are trying to keep warm.
